Youth Leadership Institute (YLI)

Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), a dynamic and youth-led leadership development program tailored for individuals aged 11-13. As a flagship initiative of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, YLI offers engaging monthly activities led by youth, emphasizing the development of leadership qualities, particularly self-awareness, within the framework of a growth mindset. Join us on this empowering journey of youth empowerment and leadership excellence.

Theta Zeta Omega AKA is thrilled to introduce our sorority's Youth Leadership Institute, affectionately referred to as YLI. We proudly inaugurated this impactful initiative in two locations – one in Harrison County and the other in Jackson County in November 2023. Over the course of the program, the participants will have the opportunity to engage in leadership development opportunities, and meaningful service projects.

YLI Modules

Module 1: Foundations of Leadership and Success

  • Explore the fundamentals of leadership principles

  • Gain insights into strategies for personal and collective success

Module 2: Engagement in Exploration, Discovery, and Self-Expression

  • Encourage active participation in exploration and discovery activities

  • Foster self-expression and individual growth within a supportive environment

Module 3: Using the Power of Purpose to Drive Success

  • Harness the transformative potential of purpose-driven actions

  • Develop skills to align personal goals with a sense of purpose

Members of YLI participated in a Career Adventure Challenge that provided exposure to a diverse array of career paths, featuring insights from entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and experts in the field of social work. Join us in exploring and navigating the exciting world of career opportunities!

The participants were exposed to Emergency Preparedness & Planning to address safety in their respective homes. In addition, YLI members took on the Legislative Challenge and received a visit from Mr. Richard Jackson, Gautier’s City Councilman for Ward 2. Councilman Jackson explained is journey into Politics, his day-to-day duties, challenges, and successes, as well as the significance of having females enter the game of politics.
